What is Star Wars: The Old Republic?

Star Wars: The Old Republic (SWTOR) is a new massively multiplayer online game created by Bioware. It has its own story, dynamic combat and innovative characters / companions. In the game you will be able to take on the role of one of eight classes from the Star Wars universe, select a race and gender for your character, and choose one of two sides. Later in the game you will also be able to pick and advanced class for your character.

Is this game MMO?

Yes, Star Wars: The Old Republic is a MMO (massively multiplayer online game). The game allows thousands of players to travel and fight in the same virtual world.

Can I play alone?

You can certainly play alone if you choose to. There will be quests and missions that cannot be completed without help from other players. But most quests can be soloed. In Star Wars: The Old Republic you will also get companions who will compliment your character’s weaker sides (e.g. if you are playing heavy-armored tank character, you will be able to get a healer companion to keep you alive in difficult situations), which will help with hard quests.

How does SWTOR differ from other MMO’s?

SWTOR has some features that are new and unique compared to other MMO games. Abovementioned companions are one of such features. There will also be fully animated dialogues in the game. There will be so called story missions in SWTOR – these will offer the best story lines at critical stages of your character’s progression.

What sides, races and classes will be in the game?

After the war the Senate blamed the Jedi for the failures leading to imperial domination and has distanced itself from the Jedi Order who still remains determined to protecting the Republic.

logo-sith-empireSith Empire With a society divided between Sith and non-Sith, the strongest leaders within the Empire are rising to claim power and restore the Sith Empire’s power in the galaxy. Since the Emperor withdrew to pursue his own goals the Empire is ruled by the Dark Council.

Will I be able to travel to different planets?

Yes, you can travel to different planets on your spaceship. The game has 17 different planets.

Will I be able to play the light or dark side of the force?

Yes, when creating your character you will have a choice between Galactic Republic and Sith Empire. Also, during the game, you’ll earn light or dark side points for your actions.

When events occur in relation to the Star Wars movies?

The game Star Wars: The Old Republic takes place  about 3,500 years before the birth of Darth Vader. The powerful Sith Empire returned from the depths of space to attack the Republic and the legendary Jedi Council.

When events occur in relation to the Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic game?

The game Star Wars: The Old Republic takes place about 500 years after the events of the game Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic.

Will I meet characters from Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic game?

Most characters from the Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic game have died long ago. But you will be able to meet their heirs, and some droids that were in game – for example HK-47.

When will Star Wars: The Old Republic be released?

The game is currently in development. Release is scheduled for late 2011 (most likely November – December).

Will Star Wars: The Old Repulic be released in different countries?

Yes, Star Wars: The Old Repulic will be released simultaneously in various countries around the world and will be localized in multiple languages. At present, developers mentioned English, French and German versions of the game.

Yes, there will be a monthly subscription fee of $15 per month.
